Ken Weir arrived home from World War II, borrowed $300, bought a pickup truck and hauled garbage, coal and anything else he could find to feed his family. Gambles store called Ken to deliver furniture for them, and that was when Weir Moving & Storage was started.
In the Early 1950's Kincheloe AFB was built and Weir Moving & Storage grew in size quickly with hundreds of military families moving in and out of the area every year.
The mid 1970's brought a shock to the area when it was announced that kincheloe AFB would be closing. Knowing that the revenue for moving would be much smaller, David Weir Sr. decided to start selling furniture to make up for the lost revenue.
Weir Furniture was then established in 1975 on Arlington Street.
In 1981 a fire completely destroyed the moving and furniture store. Weir Furniture and Weir Moving & Storage then moved to the current location with a 10,000 square foot showroom.
In 1982 the Weir family added to their companies Weir Pakcage & Freight. Weir Package & Freight handles over 400 packages daily from UPS, USPS, and FedEx. Weir Package & Freight also handles several freight shipments everyday with their forklift service.
In 1996 Weir again added to their family of companies with Weir Flooring and Kitchen Center. The building houses a 4,000 square foot showroom with the largest in stock flooring store in the Eastern UP.
In 2009 Weir added a 4,000 square foot addition to their main store and now has the largest selection of mattresses in the entire UP (Upper Peninsula).
